Introduction | The Big 30

Somewhere around Dec 2019, my parents started to really bring up the question seriously -"Beta, shaadi kab karoge" (Son, when will you get married) - The journey starts here.

Dec 2019, New Delhi, India

Let me start by introducing myself. Or let me just give you the attributes..

I am a 29 year old, Punjabi boy, working in the private sector, making 6 figures a month, well educated, well read, traditional business family, modern outlook. You can call me Sharad Bhatia.

Okay, so the question comes up and I've already attended enough marriages in my life. Some of my friends already have a kid, some have 2, there's one couple planning the third one too - because life mein kaam hi kya hai?

I some how, reluctantly agree and tell my parents I am ready for marriage. They straight away ask me if I am seeing someone.

A little more background here, my parents have a love marriage. They are married for 30+ years and are happy.

But I've been single almost my entire life and I tell them, Nope, I am not seeing anyone.

You know when the Big 30 approaches you, your mind works in different ways. You start questioning your decisions and you start calculating what's good or not! At least I did!

Fast forward March 2021, we are in the middle of fucking pandemic and 30 feels like just a number. Last 15 months have been a rollercoaster ride for me. From creating online matrimony profiles and paying a premium (which I could've easily used for Tinder Gold), to meeting girls after i've spoken to them for 3 months over calls/video calls because travel is restricted.

I'll talk more about my personal experiences here and how I feel that Indian Matrimony websites are fuckall and are toxic.

More to follow..
